I saw an interview of hockey coach Don Cherry in which he said the Canadian “rednecks” had nothing to be ashamed of. He said “The name came from hardworking men leaning forward to dig or plow or plant and exposing their necks to get sunburned all day. Lazy guys didn’t work so didn’t get red necks.”
