I’m from Venezuela and our point of view is that Great Britain thinks they can get away with anything and did. But now Guyana is not part of Great Britain anymore. History, as we learned from school, is that the Esequibo region was taken from us, and all our maps showed the region cross-hatced and labeled ‘contested area’ or ‘zona en reclamación’
I’m sure there will be support by the general population in Venezuela since most think it is an area that belonged to us and was taken from us (from long before oil reserves were discovered in the region) So this can not be dismissed and should be taken seriously. It will be interesting to see how it will play out.
