Opinion: President Biden just pledged to shut down 60% of America’s electric power
NY Post ^ | December 10, 2023 | By Stephen Moore

The Biden administration made two virtue-signaling proclamations at last week’s COP28 conference in Dubai it says will help save the planet from climate change.

The policies aren’t likely to change the planet’s temperature by even one-tenth of a degree, but they might just destroy the 21st-century American industrial economy as we know it.

First, Team Biden announced it will stop production of all new coal plants in the United States.

This comes on the heels of President Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency saying this year it would impose new power-plant emission regulations that are virtually impossible for coal plants to comply with.

The bottom line: no more coal. Period.

But the White House was just getting started.

Vice President Kamala Harris trumpeted the next day new rules to “sharply reduce methane from the oil and natural gas industry.”

The administration calls methane a “super-pollutant” it wants to eliminate because it’s “many times more potent than carbon dioxide.”

But methane is effectively a hydrocarbon that comes from natural gas.

Eliminating methane is a de facto ban on natural-gas power plants.

Biden is playing a dangerous game of unilateral energy disarmament.

If he has his way, we will jump off the cliff first in the naïve hope that China, India, Russia and Europe are right behind us.

Whether intentional or not, this radical green agenda will cripple our global economic leadership, cost our economy millions of jobs and make Americans colder in their homes in the winter and hotter in the summer.

I say we take off and nuke ourselves from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

Fortunately, we have the SCOTUS. The Biden Administration will have to pass new laws to do this. So they don’t have the authority. If they attempt to do any of this thru EOs, it will get overturned.

Need to light up Biden so we don’t need to curse the darkness. I have never heard such hare-brained schemes as those he has suggested. I don’t think we want to wait long enough for impeachment.

Respectfully asked of all:
How do the Dems around you make an excuse for the fact that the Chinese are constructing and putting online more coal fired plants than any country in the world——today? Aren’t the Chinese supposed to be spiritual and mystical while the Americans are crude, crass capitalists?

China builds more new coal plants than rest of the world.
NPR
Mar 2, 2023 — China permitted more coal power plants last year than any time in the last seven years, according to a new report released this week.

Reuters on new coal plants:
The surge in new coal-fired power stations has provided an economic lifeline for some, including a woman surnamed Li, who owns a fruit shop near the Yushen Yuheng plant. She said she left her hometown of Yangquan in neighbouring Shanxi province after curbs on coal stymied development there, and is betting on growth around the Yushen Yuheng plant.

“Overall my business is good, at least better than when I was in Yangquan,” Li told Reuters. “Here you can see white smoke coming out of huge chimneys.”

But Kamala and Gavin Newsom would be even more destructive of our freedoms-—which is saying a lot after Biden.

"The policies aren’t likely to change the planet’s temperature by even one-tenth of a degree" -- ONE HUNDRED YEARS from now.

And they call Trump a "Dictator" who is going to "destroy democracy."

These people are insane.

From the EPA's own website:

"Methane is also emitted from a number of natural sources. Natural wetlands that are not managed or changed by human activity are the largest source, emitting CH4 from bacteria that decompose organic materials in the absence of oxygen. Reservoirs and ponds with high organic matter and low oxygen levels also produce methane through the microbial breakdown of organic matter. Smaller sources include termites, oceans, sediments, volcanoes, and wildfires."

*Emphasis mine
