You’d have to be some kind of blithering idiot to use a shotgun in a building with large shot, much less a slug. Unless your walls are thick concrete you will be killing neighbors.
Small shot, no bigger than 3. Might it take two shots to put down the Ahole on PCP? OK, once slowed down the 2nd shot to the face.
Both.
“Mossberg 590A1”
Buy two...just because.
They’re fairly cheap and I bought one about 8 years ago for $299.
Slugs and buckshot are just two rounds you can use in a shotgun.
There are other options such as;
12ga marine flares. These are aluminum slugs wrapped in magnesium. They’ll BBQ unfortunate intruders.
Tungsten flechette rounds. They can tear up kevlar and ceramic plates.
Point detonating 12ga HEAT rounds that can damage light armored vehicles.
And etc.
Thank you. I realize that there is a novelty aspect to the weapon, but in a specific use, maybe it shines.
Carjacking/home invasion. Close in use. Shoot a home invader within the confines of a room or area, and I believe that the amount of steel heading downrange is insurmountable, with good shot placement. And, I like the idea that it will fire off a .454 Casull round. Six, in fact.
One of my favorite armorers says, put a gun in your hand and feel it - it will talk to you. Or, put another way, it’s going to feel comfortable to hold and use or it isn’t, and the more comfortable the feel, the more likely you are to use it, and to use it accurately.
I wanted a .50 Desert Eagle in the worst way. Turns out, the damn thing is so big it was actually uncomfortable in my hand.
“if you ever have to shoot an intruder it will probably be at a distance of twenty feet or less.”
FBI data says 95% of all gunfights are within 8ft or less.
A shotgun is great to protect your property from intruders, but nothing beats the nimble speed of an autoloading pistol inside the home.
I recommend .40 cal or larger. 9mm if you can empty the magazine quickly.
The nimble speed of a nightstand pistol is unmatched.
What about over penetration inside the home?
I agree. Plus I'll have my .40 Glock with me.
Bkmk/shotgun vs.?
Dropped my first deer at 129 yards with a slug.
Fleschettes with a slug follow-up...
Always allow the maximum “suffering” time before “lights out”...
Depends on where the self defense takes place. Outside I’d go with buckshot. Better chance of hitting than a slug unless you’ve got time to aim.
I’ve got a 10 round semi 12guage with double 00 buck. Figure that’s good for several folks.
Inside the home, bird shot is fine, big area but less patching up afterwards.
“What about over penetration inside the home?”
Progressive loadouts solve this.
For my Mossberg 500 that means
2ea #9 birdshot followed by 2ea 00 buck followed by a magnum slug.
That’s what I saw in online .410 ammo for sale, three 000 pellets. Sounds like a close-range thing from the Judge.
I was thinking of the most likely location where would need to use it in my house. A slug would go through the perp, a drywall pantry, and into my fridge. It wouldn’t kill my neighbor, but I would have to get a new fridge.
THAT, is beautiful. What a bold surprise for some scum bag eh?
