The few remaining residents in the devastated eastern Ukrainian town of Lyman are preparing for a difficult winter as snow falls and the temperature drops.
More than a year after Ukrainian forces drove out Russian troops who occupied Lyman for five months, it's a struggle just to stay warm.
"There is no hope in the electricity. There is no gas, the electricity comes and goes. It doesn't depend on people, it depends on the weather," said 63-year-old Hennadiy Batsak, sitting in front of a simple wood-burning stove in his flat.
The stove looks jarringly out of place in Batsak's late Soviet-era apartment but is the only way for most people in the town to heat their homes during the long, cold winter, when temperatures drop far below zero.

It is fascinating that folks who say Ukraine didn’t achieve its goals with counteroffensive proves Russia is winning
The Germans of ww2 would have been thrilled with this level of soviet “winning”
I also find it fascinating that the corruption within Ukraine (like they are the only ones), means that Russia is free to invade and conquer.
By that same logic, Russia is justified to invade the US, and these same folks should support that to(imagine some in their twisted minds do)
The corruption part of the Ukraine equation can be dealt with, the solution however is not to put them under an even more corrupt and evil Russian regime

Contrary to the popular narrative (aN UnPrOvOKeD aTtAcK!!!) least they acknowledge that this civil war was ongoing long before Russian intervention in 2022.
