50 miles? That is nothing. I think this article is more geared to people wanting to drive 200 miles from their homes.
I've been in that situation with my ICE cars, getting lost going to a relative with a new home, going back and forth until finding the home. What I have learned is to carry a small reserve 2-gallon gas can on long trips, especially at night. 50 miles is nothing, and only a fool ventures out on long trips with a half-empty tank.
So all we need is a 2-gallon can of electric to replace that messy gas can. Problem solved. These people forget that it took 100+ years to build the ICE support infrastructure to what it is today, and that was based on delivering the product that consumers wanted to buy.
The world would be a better place if these people just kept believing in Santa Claus and left the rest of the world alone. Or if they all joined a religious order, locked themselves in a small room, and beat themselves with scourges to atone for their sins.
