Clarence Thomas’ Clerks: An ‘Extended Family’ With Reach and Power
The New York Times via Yahoo ^ | December 26, 2023 | By Abbie VanSickle and Steve Eder

In late August, amid a rising outcry over revelations that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas had received decades of undisclosed gifts and free luxury travel, a lawyer in Chicago fired off an email to her fellow former Thomas clerks.

“Many of us have been asked recently about the justice,” wrote the lawyer, Taylor Meehan. “In response, there’s not always the opportunity to tell his story and share what it was like to work for him. And there’s rarely the opportunity for us to do so all together.”

Meehan attached a letter in support of Thomas. Minutes later came a reply. “I just had to jump up right away and say bravo for this,” wrote Steven Bradbury, a Heritage Foundation fellow who served in the George W. Bush and Trump administrations. Within days, Fox News viewers were hearing about the letter, now signed by 112 former clerks and testifying that the justice’s “integrity is unimpeachable.” Among the signers was popular Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

In the 32 years since Clarence Thomas came through the fire of his confirmation hearings and onto the Supreme Court, he has assembled an army of influential acolytes unlike any other — a network of like-minded former clerks who have not only rallied to his defense but carried his idiosyncratic brand of conservative legal thinking out into the nation’s law schools, top law firms, the judiciary and the highest reaches of government.

THEY - “Liberals” Leftists and Progreessives literally HATE Justice Thomas BECAUSE he’s a Conservative Black man who left their intellectual plantation. He became freed from them and they hate him for it.

Just a bunch of racists who don’t like a black man holding power. At least that is what they say about us complaining about Communists like Obama.

Apparently, Supreme Court justices aren’t allowed to have generous friends.

"idiosyncratic brand of conservative legal thinking "
What they are really afraid, classical legal thinking, not situational grabs for power.

his idiosyncratic brand of conservative legal thinking

There have actually been a large number of such "idiosyncratic" legal thinkers as Thomas and his clerks--notably John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington, men who pledged to this brand of thinking, "our Lives, our Fortunes, and our Sacred Honor."

How about you, most august and authoritative NYT? Are you our friend or our enemy? (Choose carefully.)

Generous friends can be problematic, Jeffery Epstein being an example. However the real question are:

1) Did Justice Thomas follow the law and procedure required of Supreme Court Justices? There is no evidence he did not.

2) Did any gift sway his opinion on a matter before the court? There is no evidence that it did.

Justice Thomas has the respect of his peers and his former subordinates. Instead of inuendo, his accusers should provide evidence. They won’t, this is Washington DC, as Lisa Simpson put it, it’s a city “….built on a stagnant swap some 200 years ago and very little has changed. it stank then and it stinks now.”

Justice Thomas is hated because he does not think or make decisions like the establishment demands that all Black people will do-instead he makes decisions strictly as stated in the constitution and his conservative/libertarian beliefs are based on that.

I’m currently reading “Created Equal-Clarence Thomas, In His Own Words”- in it, he explains how his belief in God and his reverence for the principles of the constitution brought about his escape from the democrat plantation and his political leanings. It is an excellent and inspiring read...
