Hanson is a very smart guy, but he seems to overestimate the moral integrity of the nation.

By now, it should be clear that the majority of Americans are not concerned with things like altruism, statesmanship, or civic pride. Sadly, far too many want the ability to indulge their personal passions, want acceptance of others for those weaknesses, and to freely anounce their prejudices, while those they oppose are silenced.

And in exchange for those, the Democrat party is willing to accomodate them for the power to control the government. Barring an unforeseen catastrophe of gigantic proportions, greater than the pandemic even, this will not be undone.

Fortunately, there are enclaves of responsible people, and so far, we can navigate through the ongoing wreck of society.
