That trail is north of Scottsdale. It is upscale and not known for crime. I take my daughter near there for “Cars and Coffee” every month to look at supercars.

I watch REAL (NOT Judge Judy) court cases on YouTube. Its almost always the same. Perp is charged with multiple crimes. All the crimes but one are dismissed and the one charge they are to be convicted of, they are allowed to plea to a reduced/lesser charge than the ONE they were to be convicted of.
THEN, in some courts they can be granted “deferred adjudication”, which means after they successfully complete their probation the felony conviction will be WIPED from their record. In other words, no felony conviction record.
The courts/prosecutors DON’T WANT TRIALS! Even if it means letting dangerous/repeat offenders off the hook with a generous plea deal.
Unfortunately, the judicial system today has been set up to benefit the three entities who have a voice in court: Judge, both attorneys. Everyone else can suck eggs. Attorneys lie with impunity at trial because they’re not under oath, and judges are protected by a SCOTUS ruling that they are never liable for a judicial act.
Did he only murder her or did he also do other things to her?
I hope the guards and prisoners stab him to death in jail.
I truly feel sorry for her parents. They’ll be sad for the rest of their lives.
My. daughter lives in the country and goes out with her four dogs, two of them are large. She was followed by a man in a truck one day, so she called her friend who lives nearby and he drove up in his truck and just stared at the guy. Off he went.
She would never hike alone.
Some relatively low portion of men have always committed almost all the violent crime, and men very frequently victimize women. Historically speaking, women, young or otherwise, were never safe to go off by themselves (and often aren’t safe going off with guys). The modern idea that women or girls can go wherever, whenever they please with no consequences is unfortunately a dangerous illusion. It shouldn’t be that way, but it just is.
Society failed women again by letting this monster loose.
If a sudden attack from behind, a concealed firearm would never have saved you or her........Only a bred to kill companion dog would have saved her.

If we lived in a proper country, fifty armed men would have descended on the jail to demand his release. After which point, he would've been marched at gunpoint and hung from the nearest tree.
