How many more crossed that Canada missed. Or that no one cared about on our southern border.
Virtually anyone can cross the border from Quebec into Maine, NH, VT and northern NY. There is only a 100 yard swath of woods that is cleared. A buddy had a house on a lake in northern VT he used mostly for snowmobiling in the winter. One side of the lake was VT. The other side was Quebec.
You were supposed to cross over and then go to the local border checkpoint IF you were on a snowmobile. It was a voluntary thing. Plus you had to buy a permit and display that on your sled to use the trails in Canada. Which he did because they were much less crowded than the trails in NH & VT.
In Derby, VT there is a crossing right in town. Anyone can walk across if they want.
