If conservatives (or whites, or Christians) were that powerful, every academic who attacks conservatives or whites or Christians would be fired. But that's not the case.
Claudine Gay was removed because being charged with anti-Semitism still packs a punch. Jewish billionaires stop donating, and the media wouldn't let up on her.
If Claudine Gay was able to answer this question, no one would have bothered to investigate her background.

I have a feeling this is NOT going to help Ms Gay.
She'll do fine, financially. She won't be fired without a very generous compensation package. Probably in the seven figures.
Whereupon she'll land a cushy job at some smaller college or nonprofit. Maybe have a book deal or cable TV show several years down the road.
This is how you change history. Drops these little nuggets of falsehoods here and there and the next thing you know, these become the historical evidence.
20 years from now, school kids will learn that scalping was exclusively a barbaric white practice, brought over from Europe and inflicted upon the Native Americans.
The left, and all their bosom buddies, need to come to grips with the facts that outright
rejection of Western values (in the person of Claudine Gay) has enormous consequences.
Harvard’s Brave New World failed spectacularly.
Harvard has lost its honor, its academic preeminence and faces problems yet to
surface when it chose to burden itself with the cumbersome baggage of Claudine Gay.
To blame this on conservatism is preposterous.
Conservatism did not make Claudine say and do the things that contributed to her fall from grace.
Rather Claudine Gay was taking her cues from liberalism. She disdained and demeaned
cultural norms, and appeared to have not even a modicum of limits on her behavior.
IOW, a perfect liberal.

So the liberal institutions that call them colleges actually need some oversight and outside management. I am so glad they recognise they cannot police themselves or even meet low standards. Yea, it’s time for the Tax Payers to veto College Education. Let the schools do what they want on their own dime.
Gay’s mistakes were not keeping a low profile after lying and cheating to get to the top. Had she just taken her ill gotten gains and not pushed her fraudulent agenda upon everyone else no one would have cared.

Conservatives did not pounce. Harvard alumni pounced, most of the liberals.
Gay was discrimminated against by racism.
And that racism was her own....antisemitic racism against the Jews..
