Hard to feel sorry for California...
Two presidents, George W. and George H. W. Bush also lived in Compton, in an apartment at the corner of Santa Fe and Myrrh. The apartment house was still standing in 2002, but it has since been razed. While she was living there, Barbara Bush described the town as "lovely."
My aunt grew up in Compton and was there when the Long Beach Earthquake took place. The temblor hit Compton hard, killing 17 residents, and she had to evacuate her home for several days for fear of aftershocks.
I think I see the problem here. It’s the Kia company. Their cars should be designed so they can’t ram anything.
And that wouldn’t be hard to do. Just install a mattress on the front bumper.
I thought of this all in my own. And I’m not even an automotive engineer.

Compton is a now majority Latino town, making up 70.81% of the population (according to the 2020 census) - blacks were pushed out years ago.
One of my former bosses grew up there and said it was beautiful, tranquil and very safe at that time with near-perfect year-round weather.

I started reading and thought "a bakery in compton, weird...." because in my whole life, I've never seen a black-owned bakery. I'm sure they must exist, but in all my travels, due probably to my own ignorance, have never been in one.
Sure enough, it was mexican....
I played Little League Baseball in Compton in 1960. The town has changed some since then, apparently.
Hmmm, just how do those “food deserts” happen?
Hutterites. Hooterites are a different sect, whose members worship chicken wings served by attractive waitresses.
Did not know that George Bush had lived in Compton. The Long Beach Earthquake you mentioned was 1933, right? Many cities in California (and elsewhere) had much different populations in the 30’s and 40’s.

What were they doing? “Peacefully protesting the high price of bagels”?
