I’m not sure why EDUCATION degree is on this list. If no one majors in this, then who will be able to teach school (K-12)?

It’s is good choice for moms - can contribute significant value to family bank account, while still taking care of her children who can go with her to work each day.

ok, boomer...lol (its ok, I am 61)

Seriously, I think your comment applied more so about 40 to 60 years ago. I am guessing that an ‘Ed’ degree today is not what it was then, and I am not sure what it was then.

Teachers should not have to have an ‘Ed’ degree. A retired specialist, in any field (math, science, engineering, physics, mechanics, woodcraft, etc, etc) should be able to pass on their skills (and in many cases, art of profession) without having to bow down to the PC/DEI gods and spend another small fortune on indoctrination technique. This (used to) work in Colleges. Why is it not the case in grade school?

Maybe people actually qualified in their career field?

I taught 16 years of high school electronics, physics and engineering because my state certified me based on education (BSEE) and 20+ years of work experience in the military and aerospace engineering.

BTW I was shunned by some teachers who were ED majors, particularly the NEA types, because to them, I wasn't a "real" teacher. To them, I was appointed not anointed.

People who got legitimate subject matter degrees will be able to teach school. Indeed, they'll do a better job. They'll actually know what they're talking about.

Colleges of Education are a huge gatekeeping scam. It’s Marxist theory up and down.

When I attended the public schools in Chicago (1963-1975) all my teachers had Masters in the subject matters they taught. In high school some of them had PhDs in their subject matter. My teachers were inspirational. I will never forget my 7th grade teacher telling us, “My job is to teach you critical thinking NOT to give you answers.” My Sophomore History teacher, who was Jewish, informing us that a big reason the South fought the Civil War was State Rights not Slavery in particular.

I agree, although I'm not a teacher myself. Everyone seems to be thinking of teachers in public schools, but private and parochial schools hire teachers, too.
