Except that the Jan 6 protestors didn’t shut down the Capitol, the Capitol shut down and then told cops to go open the barriers and let the protestors in. Cruz and another fella were arguing in session to stop the certification, and the left of course refused, and then shut down in order to stop Cruz and the other fella from further making their points according to a report on what happened that day (the article was posted on fr back then- I can’t remember what the title was now)- so supposedly, according to that article, it wasn’t the protestors that caused the shutdown- it was a planned deal where the left sought to entrap the right by allowing them to enter the building

No, nor were they charged with insurrection other than in the media. Not sure if shutting down a state government would violate the Federal law, and don't think most states have laws covering insurrection. Other than riots and such which they don't enforce in CA. These protesters did shut down the capital. Also roads and airports. Those are terrorist acts per the FBI.

Terrorism Definitions

International terrorism: Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups who are inspired by, or associated with, designated foreign terrorist organizations or nations (state-sponsored).

Domestic terrorism: Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.
