Ukrainians are resorting to extreme lengths to flee the war
The Times (UK major newspaper) ^ | January 11 2024 | ANTHONY LOYD

Men between the ages of 18 and 60 are forbidden from leaving the country without special exemption.

A contentious new bill seeks to mobilise another 500,000 men for military service.

Border Guard officers anticipate that the new mobilisation will increase the numbers trying to flee the country.

In the initial stages of the war, most men trying to flee the country used fake papers stating they were exempt because they were carers or had three children or more. Many hid themselves in vehicles leaving Ukraine over official border crossings.

Men make attempts every day to cross the borders between Ukraine, Romania and Hungary, taking their chances on foot with smugglers’ guides, often at extortionate prices.

Some never make it. Since 2022, the Mukachevo unit of the DPSU has pulled the bodies of 19 men who drowned trying to cross the river and found a further five frozen to death in the forests.

One escapee who swam the Tisza to Romania last month even posted a blog bragging of his exploits, titled “Diary of a Free Man”. “I don’t want to die for nothing on the front,” he posted.

Other would-be draft dodgers elicit the help of smuggling gangs, who advertise their services on Telegram channels. For prices between $700 and $1,300 they offer clients “legal” documents to help them on their way. Those preferring to escape Ukraine through forests or across the Tisza can find guides on the channels too, who usually charge between $3,500 and $5,000.

The DPSU pursues smuggling gangs and their clients using drones, thermal optics, ground sensors, surveillance cameras and night vision. Every day they post evidence of the success, showing newly-captured men with hangdog expressions, some draped in rubber rings and armbands, as a way of discouraging others from flight.

This cant be right. I was told the Ukrainians have hardly lost any troops and there is a million more ready to go if need be. The eventual need for US troops on the ground, I was told is also a myth. God I hope so.

Why the worry?

The press told us Russians are down to fighting with shovels:

Putin’s troops ‘left to fight with shovels’ as Russia suffers ammunition shortage

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/putin-shovels-russia-troops-ukraine-b2294545.html

The press wouldn’t lie to us, now would they?

In my opinion, he people of Ukraine need to rise up and overthrow the government who have been sacrificing the men of Ukraine to no good purpose. The whole war with Russia could have been avoided if the West had kept their intelligence services from interfering in internal Ukraine matters (Beginning with the financing and providing weapons for the “Maidan Revolution” of 2014, which is where things began to go south for Ukraine.)

If it wouldn’t be for the US………..

If it would not be for the US most Ukrainians still would have a roof over their heads and sleep in their own beds. Overall life and living conditions weren’t that bad in Ukraine, aside from corruption which reeked to high heaven, many times worse than here in the US and along with it, US governmental agencies involvement, in order to gain a foothold, stirring the pot long before the last elections, which were a sham to begin with just like the last elections here in the US.

Probably the eastern portion of the Ukraine which has a large portion of ethnic Russians and was constantly assaulted by radical groups; would have been annexed by Russia and things eventually would have settled down. The same goes for Europe if they had not jumped on the US bandwagon. The US purposely damaged the gas supply lines making sure that Europe in general and Germany in particular remains dependent on the US like a colony, just in case they may come to their senses and change their mind.

Those days when Russia had any ideas of expansion are long gone and over with and things of the past. All they want is a quiet neighborhood without NATO or CIA manipulation and intervention. Just like the US likes to keep their backyard free of any intruders. But the warmongers within the US regime know that a peaceful coexistence is bad for the production of war materials, especially the military industrial complex as well as the globalists, cranking out wartime supplies like there is no tomorrow and if they keep it up there may not be one. So, they keep stirring the pot until it will boil over and it isn’t too far from doing just that.

Terminology, and it is gotten wrong way too often.

There is a difference between mobilization and conscription.

For decades, Russia has had universal conscription. This is true of many countries. At a certain age, each year, X number of young men are conscripted and sent for training. In the case of Russia, they train for 1 year and are then sent back to their civilian lives and are categorized as being in the Reserves. There are waivers, of course. Rural doctors . . . categories like that are exempt. And conscripts who have completed training may enlist in the active duty armed forces for an enlistment period (called contract period). This is identical to most everywhere, including the US. Enlisted people are committed for a period of enlistment and must renew at the end of it, or move on.

Ukraine is doing conscription now, though they have a different time period of training and different age range.

So conscription is cast in a negative lite, but it is a very common norm in many countries, including the US during Vietnam.

Be aware, Russia has conscripted you men every year for decades. A new conscription will be announced in the next few months in Russia, and in Ukraine. Russia’s multi decade norm is two conscription events per year.

Mobilization is a different word. It is activation of those already trained troops now in civilian life but members of the Reserves. Given the decades of conscription in place, Russia has accumulated millions of Reservists living in civilian life.

Mobilization is the same thing for Ukraine, though they have many fewer available Reservists to mobilize.

Russia mobilized 300K reservists in September. Nearly all of Putin’s political opponents in the upcoming election attack this number as being far too low, given the millions available.

--- "Men between the ages of 18 and 60 are forbidden from leaving the country without special exemption."

Meanwhile Z and his entourage are busy visiting all sorts of nations around the West, Estonia most recently which has a national population smaller than that of Kiev. Sounds like a geopolitical game of musical chairs, and some with "special exemption" are asking for a seat in the game, every round. But the game grows short....

Refusing to defend your country from invaders is treason and should be dealt with accordingly.

“Are we talking about our Regime, or just in general?”

You’ve a point there. Failing to oppose Democrats could be considered treasonous!

I wouldn’t pick up a squirt gun to defend Joe Biden. I would be all for people that threw this traitor and fraud out.

Times have changed in this world. Our countries have been invaded from within. You can’t use old way thinking or you might be condemning the actual freedom fighters.
