Entire platoon of Putin's army fled their trenches on the Ukrainian front line and tried to escape to Crimea with Russian commanders threatening execution for deserters, Ukraine claims

An entire platoon of the Russian army fled their frontline trenches and tried to escape to Crimea as commanders threatened execution for deserters, Ukraine claims.

Oleksandr Shtupun, the spokesman for the Tavria Grouping of Troops, said that 'nearly 40 invaders' had 'recently' tried to escape to the peninsula, which has been occupied by Russia since 2014.

'I'm talking about an entire platoon of the Russian army. There were reports that they were being hunted down in an attempt to bring them back,' he told Espreso Tv, adding that the deserters were armed.

The military spokesperson also reportedly said that a recent cold snap and unsanitary conditions prompted a further 30 Russian soldiers to surrender in just a four-day period.

It comes as desertions among the Russian ranks have surged as the war in Ukraine approaches the two-year mark, with dire conditions and high casualty rates swelling discontent in Putin's army.

I’ve heard a version of this claim from both sides. There’s this story you posted, plus a story I read earlier today that Ukrainian men are using extraordinary means to leave the country to avoid being drafted.

Maybe both are true, and this war can come to an end.

Off topic (as usual for me) but as to trench warfare, is thee anyone who can confirm or deny something I read once about Hitler?
As a young Austrian soldier he was disgusted with the poor training and poor quality of troops. Once in a trench in open warfare, he suddenly said “I’m leaving now.” He stood up, walked through machine gun fire and shells but heard a shell hit the exact place in the trench he left. The others were killed and he was saved.

I know I read it but was it an unverified source?

Hope all is true

In any case , this is a slow bleed for Russia, it’s been 2 years of a 2 week war. Lol

If Russia think they will go after Sweden , Poland or other Baltic countries then good luck because it’s all a numbers game

Russia doesn’t have the numbers and will hemorrhage and will eventually fail

Bleed bleed bleed

Russia says it carried out 23 strikes on Kiev’s defense industry sites, troops this week

MOSCOW, January 12. /TASS/. The Russian military carried out 23 group strikes on Ukraine’s defense industry sites and bases of troops, mercenaries and nationalists from January 6-12, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a daily bulletin of the special military operation.

"Between January 6 and January 12, 2024, the Russian armed forces carried out 23 group strikes with long-range air-and sea-launched high-precision weapons, including Kinzhal hypersonic air missile systems, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles, on facilities of Ukraine’s military-industrial complex engaged in the production, upgrade and repairs of aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, armored vehicles, missile launchers and artillery systems. Also hit were bases of the Ukrainian armed forces, nationalist groups and foreign mercenaries," the ministry said.

The goals of the strikes were achieved and all the designated targets were hit, it said.

###

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, the Russian Armed Forces have destroyed a total of 567 Ukrainian warplanes, 265 helicopters, 10,620 unmanned aerial vehicles, 447 surface-to-air missile systems, 14,578 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, 1,202 multiple launch rocket systems, 7,694 field artillery guns and mortars and 17,345 special military motor vehicles.

What you forgot to mention are the vast mount of Ukes surrendering because they never wanted to be on the battlefield.

Both sides do this.

The Zeepers have run out of propaganda so they are settling for this kind of nonsense to try and stay relevant.

Russia isn’t really known as a POW-friendly military to surrender to.

What's amusing is that you think Ukraine and the Biden and Trudeau regimes are truthful. All the most dishonest sources the world has seen since Baghdad Bob. That's what you're too dense to comprehend.

Ukraine is getting its ass kicked. It won't get back any of the territory Russia presently controls. And, if there isn't an unconditional surrender, it will lose far more territory.

Sure, and the Lakers are destined to win the NBA Championship every year

... except things happen, and they don’t ...

Ukraine wasn’t expected to last a week against “superpower” Russia ... then 1 week turned into 2 ... then a month ... then 2 months ... we’re now approaching the 24th month

It’s pretty damn obvious by now that Putin has a “completion problem”, lol

What numbers doesn’t Russia have? Able-bodied fighters? Armaments? Money?
