A woman from Coral Springs was taken into custody following allegations by the police that she abandoned her three children in their apartment unattended. At the same time, she engaged in partying for almost two days....
The eldest child, a 12-year-old, made several attempts to contact her mother during this time, calling her 12 times and sending texts expressing their need for care and food.
One of the texts from the child read, “Buenos dias Mami,” followed by messages of concern and confusion about how to feed and take care of her siblings.
A few hours later, the child again texted, writing, “Mommy, I was calling you because we’re hungry, and I don’t know how to make noodles. You’re the only one that does. Please come home.”
The situation escalated to a point in which the children could no longer wait for Jenkins to return, and on the evening of December 31, the 12-year-old approached a neighbor for help, stating that she and her siblings were hungry.
The neighbor alerted the police, triggering an immediate search for the mother.

How does a 12 year old not know how to do some basic cooking?
Could have googled how to cook noodles instead of texting.
Mother’s a POS and the 12 year old could have done much better.
“ How does a 12 year old not know how to do some basic cooking?”
He hasn’t been instructed. Mom is too busy partying and dad is nowhere to be found.

Horrible woman. HORRIBLE MOTHER. Throw the book at her.
When I lived in Margate in the 77-81 timeframe, Coral Springs was a pretty ritzy area....................
I saw the age of the other 2 kids and they were too young for a 12 year old to handle alone for 3 days, the others were 3 and 5, but any 12 year old should know how to feed themselves, that is a 7th grader.
You would think that with a mom like that, the kid would know her way around the basics of the home and doing some chores like washing clothes and fixing herself basic meals, bathing the little kids and dressing them, etc.
“How does a 12 year old not know how to do some basic cooking?”
That’s what you took from this story? WTF is going on with some of you on FR?
Nothing, and don’t use the F word.
I have to agree with DAC21 on this one.
Must be those amazing family values G W MORON told us about.
What the hell? That’s not even close to the point of this story. It would be OK to abandon your children as long as one of the kids knows how to cook?
I guess we could all give the same sad sighs and repeat the same things to each other and go tsk, tsk, tsk with each other in unison, when we see one of the countless stories like this.
The 12 year old knows prepare food but is saying they can’t in the hope their plea will bring Mom home.
I was left alone for as long as a week and neither of us was close to 12, and that was in an unfinished house on a bayou, and a number of times for 2 or 3 days at a time.
My mother would never have done such things but my dad would pick us up and take us off places and then go do his thing, even in Monterrey Mexico we ran into that and in a shack built on a sandbar on the Texas coast for a couple of days.
Neglectful mom stories are hardly interesting or new, or rare, but it is mystifying that the 12 year couldn’t do basic cooking.
Why would a boy know how to cook?! I didn't know how to cook when I was 12. Even today at 69 I can't do much more than microwave something that comes with directions. But I can do all kinds of things with tools like build things and work on cars.
Makes sense, surely mac and cheese or noodles and butter weren’t beyond her.
Look at the mother and the father is probably long gone. Who is there to teach these kids anything?
