Pakistan and Iran are once again at loggerheads after the two nations struck alleged militant hideouts in each other's territories within 48 hours. On Thursday, Pakistan targetted separatist Baloch militants in Iran's Sistan-Baluchestan province, killing at least nine people, Reuters reported. This came after Tehran on Tuesday said it had attacked the bases of another militant group in the Pakistani territory.

The two neighbours have a history of accusing each other of harbouring militant groups operating from regions along their shared border.

Pakistan has been ranked as the ninth strongest military globally in the latest assessment by the Global Firepower Index. Meanwhile, Iran holds the 14th position in the same index.

Probably. For what it’s worth, I was at a USAF pilot training base, in the 70s. We trained Iranian student pilots. Almost to a man, those guys couldn’t fly airplanes, to save their a$$es. I don’t know how many can fly today. I don’t know anything about Pakistani pilots.

Plenty of them at our universities at the time. The Shah’s misguided attempt to leapfrog into the modern world.

Of course Serbia and Austria-Hungary were two snakes fighting each other...that mess is still biting us in the butt over a century later.

Happily we are blessed with having an experienced leader at the helm in these dangerous times.

From friends, my understanding is that in the Shah’s Iran, important jobs were to be held by high status people. On the other hand, high status Iranians didn’t expect to have to actually work.

How they got uranium enrichment going is unclear. The engineers and scientists must be ones who were refugees from the Shah in the West and returned to Iran after the Revolution.
