Palestinian attack on Christian holy site raises concern. “We know of no arrests that are made in such cases, nor do we see the P.A. placing any guards in those sensitive locations under regular attack.”
(January 19, 2024 / JNS) A Palestinian mob caused extensive damage to a Christian holy site in Nablus (Shechem) known as Jacob’s Well on Sunday night.
Creepy. Years ago on a visit to Israel, I drank from that well.
Have they attacked anymore old women or babies?
I really hope not.

Earlier stories of destruction. Notice the thugs didn’t always really care about the religious purpose for destruction of non-Muslim sites but wanted to find quick to grab items to sell for money, just like urban thugs in the US.
ISIS destroying historic sites:
ISIS justifies the destruction of cultural heritage sites by its Salafism, which, according to its followers, places “great importance on establishing tawhid (monotheism)”, and “eliminating shirk (polytheism)”.
Khaled al-Asaad, 82, was interrogated by militants for a month before he was murdered in the ancient city.
Palmyra-based activists circulated a gruesome image on social media of Asaad’s beheaded body, tied to a pole on a street in the city.
Before the city’s capture by Isis, Syrian officials said they moved hundreds of ancient statues to safe locations out of concern they would be destroyed by the militants. Isis was likely to be looking for portable, easily saleable items that are not registered.
Asaad had played a role in evacuating the contents of the museum before Isis took control, which meant he faced certain arrest.
Wouldn’t Jacob’s Well be a pre-Christian (Israelite/Samaritan) site? Or do only Christians identify that particular well with Jacob’s Well?
It’s on the grounds of an Eastern Orthodox church and monastery. It probably does date to the pre-Christian Era. The area is under control of the Palestinian Authority.

Wells have always been prescious in that part of the world. Jacob’s Well is pre-Christian, but it is also held by tradition to be the site of the encounter of Jesus and the Samaritan woman.
I been there on both of my visits to Israel.
Christian holy sites used to be considered off limits because the Pali vendors made quite a good living selling trinkets and souvenirs to tourists. I went there in ‘86 and felt quite safe in the Muslim quarter of the city and other Christian holy sites.
