"It's going to require us working in our individual states using the tools that the Founding Fathers gave us to be able to take power away from DC and return it back to the American people to make sure that the incentives are to produce good government rather than self serving government," the governor said.

the Florida Legislature is going to be certifying a series of amendments constitutional reforms under Article Five of the Constitution that will rein Washington in and that will hold Washington accountable."

"We're in a great spot, because people look to us for leadership on a lot of these issues. So now they're gonna see this, this is now back on the front burner. And as states are meeting in their legislative chambers, this is something that's very easy for them to certify going forward," DeSantis said. "So I think you could end up getting there with a balanced budget amendment."

All over the Florida news services....

desantis says he wants to change the constitution and add 4 amendments.

And he wants other states to follow his lead.

I don't see him saying anything about fixing the insurance problem that's affecting Florida...

We have term limits already - (a) the limit of the term in office after an election, (b) until the next election. If voters think someone has been in office too long they can vote them out.

Hey RDS, get the 17th Amendment reversed FIRST then come back to talk to us.

DeSantis has some good ideas and a willingness to throw down and fight.

He just should have waited until 2028. He'll still be young enough, but it was a mistake to challenge Trump after the 2020 stolen election.

The nation very badly needs to shove Trump down the throat of the people who stole the 2020 election.

The ONLY way, IMHO, to fix the FEDGOV problem is to stop feeding it. That means balanced budget amendment. The second issue is have the state’s control the revenue, which means that the individual states have to collect taxes to send to Washington, not the IRS. That means no federal income tax, only State Taxes or state Sales taxes.

I believe the above is the only way to fix FEDGOV. The only way to fix the insurance issue in florida is to have the State have it’s own insurance option.

In theory. In practice, the advantages of incumbency make it extremely hard to get bad people out.

I would be okay with a voting system that allowed them to remain in office, provided they always received more votes than their previous election.

Make it harder to stay in office to offset that huge advantage of incumbency.

DeSantis should have stayed in Congress, and introduced those Bills and others that were needed, but he had too many political ambitions and left after only 5 years to run for Governor. Then he committed political suicide and tried running against President Trump.

I was about to post the same thing.

Let's go with the originalist approach first. Abolish the 17th Amendment. Then see how things go.

While we’re asking, how about we do away with the 17th amendment..?

Congress can’t hold budget hearings because to do so would mean accounting for prior and current expenditures. They spend so much they are incapable of reporting on what it was spent! They don’t even know what they spent it on? Only that they need more!

“In practice, the advantages of incumbency make it extremely hard to get bad people out. “

Both houses have rules that reward seniority. It should be replaced with juniority. The members who have been in the shortest amount of time get the benefits. You can keep voting the same people in each time but every time you do they end up further down the pecking order

I don’t see how this guy can ever undo the horrible things he did — by simply having a political career.

Politicians are the Swamp. Period. He is part of it and disqualified for all future office.

Well, this is useful anyway, in that all four items should be supported and would lead to a positive outcome. If this is his first act of restoring himself for a future run, it’s not a bad one.

Or maybe I should say, he’s doing better not being a 2024 candidate than he was when he was running.

The problem isn’t the government per se, the problem is with the type of people who are in government.

Without the extermination of those D.C. cockroaches (and those in the media), nothing will change. /spit

A requirement for a balanced budget at the federal level

Just another half-assed approach to the financial mess that is the us dollar. Such a band-aid amendment only insures that taxes go up as fast as expenditures. He's still a DSC tool.

What's really needed, and way WAY WAY out of DeSantis's (DeSwamptus is retired) hands, is for a complete collapse of the USD, and change to QFS/ISO20022/PM backed "Rainbow" currency, as now being highlighted on usdebtclock.org and elsewhere.
