It's not like it happens every day, but the article of this thread was piling on to Boeing's recent problems with something that isn't a Boeing only issue.
Most commercial airline windshields are electrically heated, so the inside of the glass could be maybe 125 degrees and the outside of the could be -40 degrees.
Cracks can happen with that sort of thermal stress.
