My great-grandfather fled the Russian pogroms in western Ukraine at the turn of the 20th century, sort of what was depicted in the movie Fiddler on the Roof. There is no documentation left of the village he and his sister came from.

They escaped Europe before Hitler, but were driven out nonetheless by the destruction of their cultural homeland.

What Schiff is doing is the cultural equivalent of stolen valor.
