I am sure there are a variety of reason. I wonder what the laws are regarding certificate of need in the states hardest hit. If required it could be that rural hospitals are denied the ability to install units and equipment that receive higher reimbursement from insurance companies and medicare/medicaid. An example might be a high trauma level E.R. or even an MRI machine. So the residents then go to other (most likely in the nearest city or suburb) for hospital provided care not available at the rural hospital.

2 reasons

1. The courts have mandated that anyone going to the emergency room is “entitled” to care regardless of ability to pay, especially if you are an Illegal Alien, then everything is FREE!!! Here in the greater Los Angeles area, most emergency rooms closed a long time ago as a result.

2. OBAMACARE, that uppity marxist muslim destroyed what we used to call Health Insurance.

example:

I recently developed a blood clot in my knee, My doctor saw me immediately and within 5 minutes I was sent to the emergency room, where a bunch of tests were done and an Ultrasound, then a shot and pills.

I have No Health Insurance and prefer to Pay my own way, my Doctor doesn’t care and prefers people like me, the Hospital didn’t care either, I have been going to both for various reasons for 40 years.

When I got the bills, the Ultrasound bill was $2707, that is how much they bill insurance companies.
My Cost listed on the same bill was $378, so that is what I paid and was happy to do it.

What does this tell you?

They only get reimbursed at a rate of 15% of the bill, so it is wildly inflated. I didn’t mind paying a little extra for the ultrasound because they put me at the front of the line and were available and nice to me. So $378 was worth it in my case, but I am going wednesday to an Imaging center for another one since I am at the end of the 6 month plan. The cost is only $215.

Here in California I was forced to get Obamacare, if I would have used it for this, the total billing to Insurance Companies is around $12K-$14K, with an $8K deductible and a 30% copay after that, it would have cost me about $10K WITH INSURANCE, ALL CASH was less than $3000

Obama and Obamacare destroyed the Health Delivery systems in this country and the only way to fix it, is to MANDATE that ALL Non Military Federal Employee’s and Retiree’s as well as the Public Employee’s and Retiree’s of EVERY STATE, be FORCED TO ENROLL IN OBAMACARE. Only the President can force this issue, and It will absolutely get fixed if he does when ALL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE NATIONWIDE has to live with it.

Saint Elizabeth's...one of Tufts Medical School's two most important teaching hospitals. Years ago the Archdiocese of Boston sold it to a for-profit hospital holding company. I assume it was sold because of all the lawsuits.

Nope...if every hospital in the state were to collapse MassGeneralBrigham (which is its new name) would be the last one to fall.
