The White House said Wednesday it is canceling $1.2 billion worth of student loans for some 153,000 people, moving forward with a piecemeal solution to its debt forgiveness pledge after the Supreme Court struck down an earlier scheme to cancel $430 billion.
“With today’s announcement, we are once again sending a clear message to borrowers who had low balances: if you’ve been paying for a decade, you’ve done your part, and you deserve relief,” Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a statement.
“Under President Biden’s leadership, our Administration has now approved loan forgiveness for nearly 3.9 million borrowers, and our historic fight to cancel student debt isn’t over yet.”
This past June, the high court struck down the Biden administration’s attempt to cancel $430 billion in loans for 43 million student borrowers under a 2003 law meant to financially assist veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

To others, let me explain it in case this college loan stuff is confusing. If taxes from single moms working two jobs should pay off student loans of their dead beat sperm donors with worthless degrees...you might be a Democrat.

Right. The debt is not being cancelled. It is just being moved to someone else’s balance sheet.
But I’m sure the clever folks at the DNC have done the research. They know that this “cancellation” will result in a net gain of votes for Democrats. And that’s all that really matters.
Of course a president cannot unilaterally cancel a public debt. That would take an act of Congress. I hope somebody sensible quickly takes this latest move to the Supreme Court.
If your college education was worth it even if you can’t pay off your student loans ... you might be a Democrat.
If people who disagree with you should pay off the loans on the “education” you got to learn to be a “critical thinker” and always agree with anything to political class tells you to believe ... you might be a Democrat.

That’s not what they are saying. They are saying we need money right now so we are culling our expenses to find it. If they aren’t on the books, no one will have to be paid to look after them. Cost effective as the checks are not coming in fast enough for them to spend it further and the amounts they are getting is too small and too slow to get.
