I got an extension electronically last April for my 2022 tax return. I sent them a check for $750 and then filed my return in October and sent another check for $115. In December I got a letter saying I filed late and now owed them $13. WTF? My kids are always after me for not filing my entire return electronically, but I learned my lesson yrs ago. Every return is now sent certified mail so they can’t “lose” it.
I’m going to start sending mine certified mail from now on. It’s crazy - like they are scheming ways to squeeze more money out of us.
I can see them messing up one of my checks, but all 3? What a scam.
They actually had the first check but it folded as it went through their machine so it was unreadable. Yet the fine I got was for not sending it. 😡
