Judge rejects delay on Trump civil fraud fines

Judge Arthur Engoron has rejected a bid from former President Donald Trump's legal team to delay payment of the roughly $355 million in fines and $100 million in interest stemming from New York Democratic Attorney General Letitia James's civil fraud case.

"You have failed to explain, much less justify, any basis for a stay... I am confident that the Appellate Division will protect your appellate rights," Engoron wrote to Trump attorney Clifford Robert in an email CBS obtained.

Trump on Wednesday asked Engoron for a 30-day extension to pay the sum, asserting that "[g]iven that the court-appointed monitor continues to be in place, there is no prejudice to the Attorney General in briefly staying enforcement to allow for an orderly post-Judgment process, particularly given the magnitude of Judgment."

A higher Court needs to smack down this ruling and leave open the door for Trump to sue both the state of NY and the judge and prosecutor personnally.

Eighth amendment.

I think the judge is in the bag, but the lawyers aren't doing a great job either.

And then this slimeball of a judge needs to be removed from the bench and disbarred.

Could the New York governor, Kathy Hochul, put a stop to this?

In the bag? Ya think?

This is Arthur Engoron. He made it clear to everyone that Trump was guilty before the trial began.

I had heard he must pay the fine before he can appeal to a higher court but I’m no lawyer

Trump can post an appeal bond which would serve as a stay.

Could the New York governor, Kathy Hochul, put a stop to this?

Kathy Hochul has already explained to worried New Jerk state realtors and business people that the state is only using "the law" to go after one person.

"It's TOTALLY not a bill of attainder against Donald Trump! wink, wink." - Kathy Hochul

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) addressed New York business owners in a new interview and told them there was “nothing to worry about” after former President Trump was hit with a $355 million fine and the inability to conduct business in New York for three years.

“I think that this is really an extraordinary unusual circumstance that the law-abiding and rule-following New Yorkers who are business people have nothing to worry about because they’re very different than Donald Trump and his behavior,” Hochul responded.

====================

Some "freepers", like joesbucks, think this is a perfectly valid application of "the law", and is totally above board.

He's been willing to defend that proposition on this thread here

Egomoron is trying to steal the 2024 election for his pedo buddy, FJB. Talk about interfering with the election. This azho and his Ghettopotamus girlfriend are doing it.

I’m not sure it’s possible for a judge to be any less fair or any more corrupt.

No. Even if she wanted to I don’t think there is anything she could do. And, I assure you she is pleased with the Court’s ruling. She thinks she can stop any businesses from fleeing with promises that this ruling will only effect Trump, the law will never be applied to anyone else, and the State will never go after any other real estate developer.

Let’s see how that works out for her and NY.

Kinda hard to post a bond when you are enjoined from doing business with any bank the have New York state affiliations. There aren’t many banks without NY affiliations that are well capitalized enough to finance the bond.

This would be a good time for the Supreme Court to overturn this as excessive and abolish the fiction of Qualified Immunity they created at the same time.

I’d love to see trial judges be punished when their rulings are overturned by a higher court!

What a dumb process. Just keep asking the judge for favors? He’ll NEVER rule in Trump’s favor.

... so when the appeal throws this verdict out, does PDJT get his $400mm back ... with interest?

When that happens the interest will be millions also and that comes from the taxpayers. Do any of them care? Get pi$$ed off?
