Raimondo responded, “Probably, yes. I share the concern. By the way, I have national security concerns about electric vehicles. An electric vehicle has sensors and semiconductors. They know who’s driving it, where they’re driving, huge amounts of data. Chinese EVs on our road, is that data going back to Beijing in ways that undermine our national security?

I wonder if it matters, what with over half the population being spied on by TikTok.

OTOH - could they command, say, 200,000 cars to catch fire simultaneously. Blocking highways, bridges, tunnels.

200,000 cars to catch fire simultaneously.

Or even randomly...spreading chaos in dribbles and drabs...

Fire is not the concern; tracking is:
An electric vehicle has sensors and semiconductors. They know who’s driving it, where they’re driving, huge amounts of data. Chinese EVs on our road, is that data going back to Beijing in ways that undermine our national security?

The Democrat position is that only one government should be able to do this, all in the interest of the "common good," as defined by the Left. Of course, smart phone and CC data much provides the same for most. Useful for catching actual criminals, but when going to church, Bass Pro shops, etc. makes one a danger, then it becomes dangerous.

Exactly. Do you want a deepstate monopoly on this or competition.

It’s already unconstitutional, but hey, who’s counting.

Doesn’t care a wit about our own country spying on us but warns that if China has the same type data, it can hurt us - did I get that right?

The new paradigm is to buy the dummies off with shiny baubles, TikTok, Telegram, Twitter, etc. you prey on their desire for popularity - all the while shamelessly exploiting them. Transportation can get at even the more mature.

In the “old days”, but not so old, portable computers had a “kill” switch on their transmitters. When the diminishingly-attractive stewardess told you to turn off your devices, you could be sure they were off.

It also took a “virus” for someone else to get your contact information from your device.

Now, those days are gone. There are no physical controls on electronic spying, and divulging your information is built into the OS.

Software has found a way to pay for itself - theft. With China involved, that payment is also military.

This should be the final nail in the EV coffin.

Does the data go through Google before heading over to China?

Psst, soccer moms drive to Walmart on the way to their kid’s soccer practice. Rep. Sheila “Don’t you know who I am” Jackson Lee has her tax paid chauffer drive her across the street from office 1 to office 2. Dr. Jill drives to pick up diapers and sometimes drops off ice cream for Nancy.

Valid points, if EVs are detonated all at once the Chinese would paralyzed the US for weeks.
