We are already providing Medicaid to people who are here illegally. I have a friend who is not a US citizen but has been here long enough that her cervical cancer is being treated via Medicaid and covered 100%.

My mother, a U.S. citizen, SS check was too big for her to qualify for MediCal. She had paid taxes to both the U.S. and California for over seven decades, but there was absolutely no help from either government in her final illness, which, thankfully was short enough that she didn’t die completely broke.

Meanwhile, Juan, fresh from Nicaragua, who hasn’t paid a penny, gets full MediCal coverage. Any idea about how I feel about that?

Same thing happened to my mother. After my dad died I applied for Medical for her. She was $40 over the income limit. She was being treated for breast cancer. She was a long time renter from the same woman so I called her up and explained the situation. She wrote me a rent increase letter of $50 (the rent wasn’t raised) and voila my mom was eligible. And no, I didn’t feel bad about it at all since this was in California.
