The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to decide whether former President Donald Trump can be tried on criminal charges that he conspired to overturn the results of the 2020 election. In a one-page unsigned order, the justices ordered a federal appeals court to continue to keep on hold its ruling rejecting Trump’s claims of immunity from prosecution, and they fast-tracked the case for oral argument in late April.
Trump was indicted in Aug. 2023 on four counts arising from Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, attacks on the U.S. Capitol.
U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan originally set a trial date of Mar. 4, 2024, for Trump’s case. But in early February, she threw that date out and indicated that she would set a new one “if and when” Trump’s immunity claims are resolved.
Chutkan had denied Trump’s motion to dismiss the charges against him on the ground that he is immune from prosecution. Smith came to the Supreme Court in December, asking the justices to review that decision without waiting for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to weigh in on Trump’s appeal, but they declined to do so.

They told him to turn himself in by Friday. How do you like them apples. One by one they’re picking us off.
So what are we hoping for here.
On the one hand, it’s Trump and I want the court to side with him because he has been so unfairly treated.
On the other hand, what if a Democrat really conspired to overturn the election. I don’t know, say they “built the largest voter fraud organization in history.”
Do I want then immune from prosecution? I think if it’s a president, I want Congress to handle it. I certainly don’t want every little small jurisdiction impuning a President because they want to.
No they won’t. That will not happen. Because bottom line is this is all about getting Trump, stopping Trump, destroying Trump.
At least this will push their decision out to June and the DA cant restart the case until then. Likely it wont be tried if the ruling does not favor Trump until after the election.
By then Trump can appoint a new AG and make this all go away.

We have a president today, Biden, who is the most corrupt president in the office, ever. We have him disobeying laws,left and right, giving aid and comfort to America's enemies every day, and who is so mentally incompetent a special prosecutor will not hold him accountable.
But the Democratic party is so completely corrupt and so invested in a false narrative about reality, they will support him and refuse to impeach.
It is the false ideology they hold to and the Democratic party which has to be defeated.
Democrats have put themselves into quite the quagmire. While their idiot voters angrily demand no immunity, they don’t realize if they get their wish, Trump47 will have the legitimate go-ahead from the Supreme Court to take aim at Joe, Barry, Bill, and W, for all formerly legal activities they took in office that have suddenly become prosecutable. I will commit vote fraud to reelect Trump if he promises to go after these people.

Can’t criminal cases be appealed to SCOTUS? The tricky thing about the Engoron case is it’s civil, not criminal.
That’s part of Trump’s argument. He was not convicted by the Senate for any of his actions as President, try as they might. Did Trump challenge the results of the 2020 election for his own personal good or as per his Oath of Office as the Chief enforcer in the fairness of our elections? Yes, both can be true.

Truly was on Hannity at the beginning of his show reviewing the immunity case and he was not very positive about Trump winning this case. He was not the only one saying this too. He says that most likely the SC will rule in favor of Smith. That was a downer.
