Daily Mail says a US spokesperson confirms the reported death and says the ambassador did not die.

Does that mean the report of his death was greatly exaggerated...or that an embassy staff person of a lower rank than ambassador was found dead?
It doesn't say he was an Ambassador, only that he was a Diplomat. What's the difference?
Well, Diplomats were built by Dodge, and Ambassadors were, I think, manufactured by Nash.
