John Barrasso WON'T run for Senate Republican leader

Wyoming Sen. JOHN BARRASSO took his hat out of the ring for the top slot of Senate GOP leadership, opting instead to make a run for party whip. The post would make him the second-most senior Republican in the chamber, giving him significant influence over floor action (plus a security detail and prime office space).

“In a letter to his colleagues, Barrasso said the Senate GOP needs to ‘break from where we are now’ and said he would pursue more transparency if chosen as the GOP No. 2,” our colleague Burgess Everett reports. “Barrasso also spoke with former President DONALD TRUMP on Tuesday morning about his decision to run for whip.”

With Barrasso out of the running, MITCH McCONNELL’s successor as GOP leader will likely fall to one of the other Johns — either THUNE or CORNYN, who have both formally announced bids for the post — though it’s possible that NRSC Chair STEVE DAINES could make a run, as well.

A contest between Cornyn and Thune? How utterly depressing is that? Might as well have McConnell in charge again!

Now, can we get the other John’s to skip it as well—Cornyn and Thune? I’d love to see Rand Paul as majority leader.

A real conservative will surely run.

Good. He is my senator and is a deep state Rino with his nose so far up McConnell’s butt he hasn”t seen reality in ages.

We can only hope there are enough MAGA Republicans in the Senate to block Cornyn or Thune.

Without Barrasso, here are the other possible candidates with their CR Liberty scores, in comparison to McConnell.

Scott - (FL) - 2018 - 86%

Daines - (MT) - 2014 - 74%

Cornyn - (TX) - 2002 - 54%

Thune - (SD) - 2004 - 51%

McConnell - (KY) - 1984 - 44%

A real eye opener. They will never let a true conservative get the top spot. It’s incredible.

Run maybe, win unlikely. Our problem is who is “conservative”? Rand Paul is not, but I think he’d be good. Trump’s not a conservative, he won’t pick one. Heck, he previously supported McConnell. Who will he pick?

“A real eye opener. They will never let a true conservative get the top spot. It’s incredible.”

That’s because McConnell has hand-picked most of the Republican caucus, with the specific intention to thwart conservatism.

I am not optimistic, l keep thinking they made Mitch Senate Minority leader when they knew the voters despised him and it wasn’t close. So l expect the GOPe will replace the worthless rino with a worthless rino. There are only a handful of actual conservatives in the Senate, not enough to stop it.

No....Rand Paul will then be locked in to duties...he needs to be free to research “wrongs” and take matters to the floor. It’s what he does best.

All Congressional leaders must have the seal of approval from the US Chamber of Commerce.

The USCOC despises America First conservatives.

I’d love to see Josh Hawley as Republican leader in the Senate.
