There is a recharging fee. It has been a while since I looked but it ranges from $35 to $50 depending on the rental company..
You also have to recognize that even a minor fender bender can total the car if the battery is damaged. I’m sure that caused their insurance premiums to skyrocket. Also, these cars have little resale value.

The truth is this was Bud Light level stupidity. Hertz was on life support and these fools spent billions on a fleet of cars nobody wanted. Now they will get screwed twice because it’s easier to sell an 8 Track player than a used EV.

It has been my limited experience that if you want success in an area, hire a guy that is focused on the product and experience in that area. They are few, are quirky (sometimes hard to work with) and have to be paid more , but they exist.

Who wants to travel to an unfamiliar place to rent a car and suffer the anxiety of having to find a place to charge up, as well as wondering how far that charge will get them, especially in cold weather?
