Supreme Court allows Texas to enforce immigration law

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Texas to enforce a contentious new law that gives local police the power to arrest migrants.

The conservative-majority court, with three liberal justices dissenting, rejected an emergency request made by the Biden administration, which said states have no authority to legislate on immigration, an issue the federal government has sole authority over.

when being shot at from a distance... do not run towards or away from the sniper nest directly... do so in a zig zag fashion so as to making a direct hit, nearly impossible to hit.

never let yourself become a planned access or egress victim.
allow the sniper no effect of “force multiplier” control... Targets KNOW how to do this maneuver much better than when I was a child.

Biden put them all on notice at his state of the commie speech... by them I mean the Supremes... he directly threatened them from the house podium.

I think we should expect more and more mercurial forms of zig zagging between now and the election.

Interesting take. Does anyone still believe that the Supreme Court is insulated from politics?

Cool, so this ruling means that Texas can arrest illegals then!

6-3 decision with the usual suspects dissenting.

Yes, the usual suspects of sacrificing the rights of a red state's majority, as protected by the Constitution, on the altar of the twisted belief in a democracy that only protects treacherous majorities in blue states.

It’s a long debate.

Prior to the 1970s, most states in the West had inspection stations on the Interstates at their borders; California and Arizona specifically. Think Texas did too. They were mainly agricultural but morphed into more then that; they became essentially state border checkpoints where general search and seizure was common.

The Warren court negated all that as un-Constitutional, and now those ports are mainly ceremonial. They stop primarily truckers if at all.

It was the intent of the Founders I think to not have the situation that existed in Europe where every little principality had a customs checkpoint charging a toll and you couldn’t go 10 miles without getting hit for such. On the Rhine, supposedly, it was worse...like every 2 miles.

But that didn’t mean that the entire planet had entry rights and the State had no enforcement rights. That’s not just abolition of State sovereignty but National sovereignty.

We would not be discussing this if the BP were still allowed to do its job and the civil rights laws had not been extended to mean that simply questioning anyone about their citizenship was a violation. So if we end up back with State border controls, and internal policing of such, it shows that the current situation caused it, and that such a laissez faire approach simply led to chaos.

FYI for most people: in the Southwest, as recently as the 1970s, it was routine for local police to detain illegal aliens for BP hand over. This only ended in the ‘90s. SB1070 simply codified the practice which had been abolished mainly through lobbying by La Raza Unida and other immivasion enablers. So we did have internal policing in coordination with the federal police force known as the Border Patrol. This worked just fine.

"Allows"? Uh-uh. In the Republic the state is already allowed to enforce its borders. The SCOTUS only decision was not to try and get in the way.

I thought it was illegal to enforce the law in this nation.

Fair point. After all - as Biden pointed out - they built this country.

Oklahoma cops are too busy cashing in on drug confiscations. They have a good day all day every day and there is no telling how much gets taken that never sees the court house.

The Supreme Court has rejected a Biden administration request to intervene and keep Texas’s strict immigration enforcement law, known as SB 4, on hold while it is challenged in lower courts.

The law would authorize local and state law enforcement to arrest migrants they suspect crossed into the state illegally. It would also also give judges the power to order migrants to be transported to a port of entry and returned to Mexico regardless of their country of origin.

Great news until Trump is in office and they decide that “X” state doesn’t have to comply with Federal Mandates.

I wonder if Florida can pass and legally enforce the same law to protect Florida from an invasion from Haiti

Thank God. I was really beginning to wonder just how far this nation had gone past the point of no return.

This gives a little bit of hope.
