Might be, it’s because of Russia’s support for Assad, and their fierce fight against ISIS in that country

But it sure changed the war calculus quickly, didn’t it?

That’s my thinking as well. Possible? Yes. But very unlikely. It’s not their style. We’re not talking about Anonymous, here. We’re talking about a fiercely committed terror group. Taking credit for an attack carried out by others would be a sign of weakness. They’re not big on that sort of thing.
