I've met so many business managers and CEOs who, like game-show hucksters, are ready to spend investors and owners' money simply "following the latest thing." In a low-growth, competitive industry like car-rentals, how else does one make a name for oneself or potentially earn $tens of millions in bonuses, unless one places ridiculous bets?
A CEO candidate who simply said, I'm going to focus on cost-control, key employee retention, and operational efficiency to grow our market share and profit a few % points, would be called "boring" and and "lacking vision."
Hertz was already on life support than they made this epic blunder. No one who mattered had the common sense to realize people who rent cars do not want to have to deal with the nightmare of public charging stations. Almost unbelievable
The I-95 elites think the whole country can just hop a bus or train to get where they need to go. They have no idea of the distances between services in the flyover states.
On another post, someone made the point that the vehicle must be fully charged before its returned. When we rent a car, we always find a gas station near the airport to fill up. Charging would add another couple hours to the return process.
“There is another problem: surveillance. The car can be tracked anywhere and shut off at a moment’s notice. This is obviously a great thing if the government desires a social-credit system of citizens control”
☝️
THAT......I’m glad someone finally said it out loud.
Driving is just one more freedom the left sees as an opportunity to control and force compliance.
They have no idea of the distances between services in the flyover states.
So the CEO made a mistake, a big one. Do you think it will change his thinking? Even in an election one can only hope to ‘shave’ a few percent of voters from the other side.
Good to see they finally got rid of CEO Scherr who was vying with former GE CEO Immelt for title of worst CEO in the history of the world
Perhaps the major auto manufacturers will get into the golf cart business.

“the vehicle must be fully charged before its returned”
If that is in fact the case, hertz should be run out of business for that stupid policy alone.
Rental vehicles are supposed to be cleaned and vacuumed between rentals, why not charge it then?
Putting the burden of recharge on the customer is asinine to say the least.
Liberals don’t care about EV troubles, and they don’t really like EVs.
Liberals are opposed to individual transportation, unless you’re talking bicycles. A future without ICEs and EVs will suit liberals just fine.
Life is tough if you can’t do maths....
>> Did Hertz think of any of this before they spent $250M
Did Bud Light think of the consequences?
Not sure it’s possible to prevent stolen elections, but the consumer still has the power of the purse, and that may be the last weapon at our disposal aside from Divine Intervention.
Hertz was already on life support than they made this epic blunder. No one who matter
That, and the caveat re propensity to catch on fire means your little charging shed had better be a safe distance from your house.
When they perfect a charging system that needs no more than a solar panel the size of a cell phone that stores the charge for up to a week and charges in less than an hour, when they perfect that? Then, gimme a call.
+1
I had a relative that lived in Arlington Va. She just couldn’t figure out why we just didn’t hop on the subway and go to the doctor in Phoenix from Tucson.
Biden wants all government employees to use EVs, take trains

There is no train. Now what?
