“Well, CIA funded Al Nusra, who then became ISIS, and who knows if that’s changed”
Wrong. Stop making S up. Al Nusra was a Syrian faction of Al Qaeda. It was a Salafist jihadi organization fighting Assad. It never became ISIS, it most often fought with ISIS. However, some of its members defected to ISIS for greater autonomy and profit (booty).
The US funded whomever opposed Assad. So what? Assad is bad news. He funneled thousands of fighters into Iraq to attack Coalition and Iraqi troops. You support and condone that apparently.

Obama worked with Salman al Saud to destabilize Assad’s regime before the Russians stepped in. Then Trump came in and bin Salman (the current crown prince) imprisoned al Saud. All the money and support dried up in 2016.
Assad is bad news? Uh, compared to the fact that the State Dept, CIA, etc. always fund the most extreme groups because that’s where the action gets done. That’s why Egypt and Libya ended up fundamentalist-controlled shiteholes (well, Sisi took over in Egypt after they had tortured hundreds of people to death).
You’re a bit naive about this. A stable dictatorship is sometimes better than all out factional warfare. Obama even flipped Ukraine during the Sochi olympics. Now 500k Ukrainians are dead and the Deep State is continually doubling down.
“Wrong. Stop making S up.”
It’s all the resident Blame America crowd has. There are no bounds to their absurd claims as long as America looks bad.
