Biden vows to reopen Baltimore port, rebuild collapsed Key Bridge

President Biden vowed Tuesday to rebuild Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge after it collapsed into the water when a cargo ship rammed into it, echoing what some Maryland officials said earlier but adding that he expects the federal government to foot the bill.

“It’s my intention that the federal government will pay for the entire cost of reconstructing that bridge, and I expect the Congress to support my effort,” Biden said in remarks at the White House. “This is going to take some time, but the people of Baltimore can count on us though to stick with them at every step of the way until the port is reopen and the bridge is rebuilt.”

He said he spoke with Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) on Tuesday morning, as well as Maryland officials including its congressional delegation and two U.S. senators. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg traveled to the Baltimore site.

Florida Atlantic University can design the new bridge.

Definitely. Not sure how that works in these cases. But feds paying 100% and state paying 0% is not right.

In any event the people will ultimately pay for this screwup.

“Mayor Pete is second to Mayorkis in worst Biden appointee.”
You didn’t mention “currently working” in your statement.
There certainly is a list of freaks to choose from!

Biden sure is quick to give away tax money (well, borrowed money...) that isn’t his. Seems that the ship’s owners and insurers should be paying.

If he says he’ll build it back better, folks in Balmer better invest in boats.

Didn't know that about Frank Robinson.

Another baseball great with a Baltimore connection was Babe Ruth. But he doesn't fit the DEI agenda.

Was it Florida Atlantic University or Florida International University that had the all-women team of engineers that designed that bridge?

I hope he does not mandate a lot of DEI hires to build the bridge.

There was no insurance on either the ship or the bridge? It needs more federal money? Election years, when the BS is in bloom.

That’s one bridge of the few in the area, not including the tunnel. Each with a purpose. This is an important port bridge.

I was listening to Waite Hoyt on Opening Day when Frank Robinson was a rookie. The Reds set up temporary seats in the outfield on Opening Day. If a ball was hit into those seats it was ruled a ground rule double.

Frank hit one into those seats. Waite was onboard with the Reds and exclaimed words to the effect, “All you youngsters can tell your grandchildren that on his first Major League at bat, Frank Robinson hit a ground rule double off of the great Vinegar Bend Mizell!”

Today I doubt that many baseball fans know about Vinegar Bend Mizell.

Is that a Federal bridge or a state or county one. The rebuilding of the bridge would be covered by the insurance from the shipping company, so Biden is absolving them of any liability and the taxpayer picks up the tab?

The new name will be “Fani’s Lift Bridge.” There will be a toll. Under the bridge will live a bevy of Trolls.
