I had a County Prosecutor tell me effectively the same thing 15 years ago. If you have to shoot, make sure you kill them.
That way there is no one “living” to testify against you.

Deputies will then write it off and that will be the end of it.
Today, just make sure you say : “you are making me fear for my life”. That way anyone recording will know that you shot in defense.
