How does he know? Why would he encourage hopelessness and despair? To despair is to turn your back on God.

I believe we are always in God’s judgement. It’s called consequences. If we do small wrongs, we will get small judgements. We only get devastated when we persist to that point.
God’s final judgement on the earth is only because we persisted to the point where there is no ability to repent of wrongs.
