Clinton shut down the forests with his ‘roadless’ plan. The feds sent dollars to schools for a few years as the revenue from logging dried up. They claimed tourism would make up for that loss. BS. There’s no work on the river so kids leave as soon as they can. Social security is probably the primary economy.
Cal. Fish & Wildlife shut down gold dredging because it floated some sediment claiming it was killing fish! The muck from dam removal is killing everything from deer to eagles.
