I'd say it's more around 60 billion with all the kickbacks and payoffs to local, state and federal governments and the union kickbacks

Given it will take at least 5-8 years, and REAL inflation running at 10-12%, $10 billion is probably an under-estimate.

I say we hire a construction crew from Ukraine, pay them $5T and give them a decade to complete the work.

I’ll bet Trump could have it done within 2 years or less. Remember the Ice Skating Rink?

$400 million to several billion dollars Sometimes you can't always predict the kickback cost....

You are too nice!
The Dems will pad the cost (like $1 trillion) to use for spending elsewhere like social justice programs at universities.
To: ChicagoConservative27
Add unions, enviromentalists, competing designs, and politics, that will be $3-5 BILLION and 7-10 years.
Compare with the Woodrow Wilson Bridge just a bit south on I-95 over the Potomac.

Why not dig a tunnel? I say ten years, it takes four years to do eight miles of plain old interstate.

When it’s all said and done, the cost will be $10-15 BILLION and take 2-3 years.

Why doesn’t this cost accrue to Maersk? Don’t they own/lease/control the ship? Aren’t they insured?

For reference, construction of the new, 3-mile long Tappan Zee bridge cost $4 billion and took about 4 years to complete.

I came across these facts when reading about the collision:
- 20 of the 21 sailors aboard the Dali were from India.
- Of the six construction workers killed all were from Mexico, Guatemala, or El Salvador.
This story was like something which happened in some backward 3rd world country.

As they say, “Never let a good crisis go to waste”. I suspect that like the SF Bay Bridge collapse, the local/state government will demand a signature bridge. A tall cable suspension, or a massive concrete arch. And a $400M span similar to the one that collapsed will become a multi-billion dollar “show piece” that will take 5+ years.

Most of the money will be used for “graft heaven” and “political funding”...
The environmental studies will take, at least, ten years...
The DEI fight over the naming of any replacement will take ten years...
The bridge will not be rebuilt and a tunnel project will begin the prelim stages 20-years from now...
All the above will be repeated for the tunnel project...
Politicians’ and unions’ bank accounts will continue to swell to astronomical proportions!
Has anybody watched the construction of the Gordie Howe bridge?

A legit heavy construction company with a deadline and a bonus for coming in on budget and on time could have that bridge back by Fathers Day.
Look for the union label.
