Laz, your second sentence there is your “money” quote and inadvertently supports and bolsters this scientist’s point. Indeed you did have no choice but to express your view here.
This has, frankly, enormous implications for our lives and for how the world itself works. Perhaps it is only by the grace of God that we veer from our unshakeable paths to find a better direction. Think of the implications for heroin addicts, smokers, alcoholics, priests, social justice warriors, moms and dads, everyone...
Indeed I think there are strings attached but we ain’t pulling them. Who or what and how is profoundly important and disturbing.
He is partly correct. We have creaturely will. Only God has free will.
He's basically saying he's a minor attracted person and its not his fault.
He declared it against his will.

Hitler had no idea what he was doing was wrong and could not control his impulses.
When you go apesh** on an airliner and start screaming and fighting other passengers, you can’t help it.
These “no free will” arguments are all self-refuting. If he doesn’t have free will, then he is incapable of forming a logical argument, so we can just assume the argument is false, since it couldn’t have been properly constructed.
If he wants to argue it was properly constructed, then he’d have to admit he has free will, and abandon the argument anyway.
Every now and again, I come across a counter to an argument that is so bulletproof it can only be described as brilliant.
Yours is such a refutation.
“This is more dehumanization science intended to further take out the value of humanity.”
Dehumanization philosophy perhaps. It’s not science.
See jacknhoo's post for a more concise (albiet slightly different) version of what you wrote.
Well done. The Bible often contains pure wisdom.
Often?.....................🤔
Please don’t get hung up on a single word I typed. I’m imperfect, and I don’t want to go down a rabbit hole based on that.
“I get it. You guys is bookies.”
“See—I told you he’d understand.”
In the Scientist world this manner in dealing with criminals makes eminent sense.
In a world with no free will criminals must be executed or sterilized to protect the general population.
In a word with no free will there is no possibility of reforming the perpetrators bad behavior. .
In a world without free will all behavior is genetic and so sterilization is appropriate eliminate the chance of passing on the genes for bad behavior.
This scientist is an advocate of eugenics.
Free will includes taking the path of least resistance. Sometimes the path of least resistance is the right path to take. Knowing which is the best way to go at any given time may not always be apparent or at all obvious, but in making a decision, you are exercising free will. Doing nothing and going nowhere is another choice, while finding a happy medium between the least and most resistant paths may seem fair and reasonable but still, you have to make decisions. It also takes free will to accept responsibility along the way, which is a better way to go than to have a court of law and jury of your peers find you “responsible” for the path you chose and the things you did along the way.
Happiness is when you’re finding your thrill on “Blueberry Hill” and the sheriff leans into your window and asks your date if it is of her own free will that she’s there with you and she says yes, and then the cop says to have a wonderful evening and leaves.
Reading deeper into the article, one discovers that he is a liberal Jew who does not believe in God, let alone in free will. So are we to believe that all the many thousands of liberal Jews (paging Karl Marx) came to their worldview randomly and not by choice?
499 years ago, in his book, De Servo Arbitrio (On the Bondage of the Will), Martin Luther reached the same conclusion replying to Erasmus.
