You should watch predatory animals. They don’t just hunt for survival.
You should also probably live in a region infected by federal wolves and understand how it is hurting the local population and economy before you pass judgment.
But even if I accept your argument, that does not give that man the right to torture the wolf. That man was nothing more than a sadistic bully. He was cruel to (by that time) a defenseless animal. He should go to jail.
