“I don’t think I like this new Speaker.”
It is the nature of politics that no one gets what they want. Everything is a compromise. There’s also a lot of transnationalism. You vote for my pro-abortion bill, and I’ll vote to authorize those new ships the navy needs. If you’re hard over on the anti-abortion side, then you have to try to figure out if the bill will pass with your vote or whether it’s killed by something else. What you personally want doesn’t matter. If you look at the voting record of any Congressman, you’ll see they do this all the time. If you get 51% of whatever you believe in, you are fabulously successful. The last honest Democrat, Patric Moynahan said, “Politics is all about who gets how much and when.”
Apparently not. You don't even get what Moynahan was saying. He was talking to Republicans, not fellow Democrats.
He was in Congress when the Democrats ruled the roost for decades. A time when Republicans got nothing and were told to be glad we let you have that.
We are not getting 2% of what we profess to believe in.
"Compromise" does not work for us. Maybe we should try something else.
