Israeli Response to Attack May Be 'Imminent,' Source Says
NBC News ^ | April 15, 2024

Israel is deciding its next steps after Iran's retaliatory attack as fears grow of a wider war in the Middle East.

What to know

An Israeli response to Iran's retaliatory attack may be “imminent,” a source told NBC News. The comments came as Israel weighed its next steps and after a meeting of the country’s war Cabinet today.

The two countries clashed at an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council, with Tehran insisting it does not seek further escalation after launching the barrage of 300 drones and missiles, but warning of more "decisive" strikes in retaliation to any Israeli counterattack.

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres said it was time to “step back from the brink” as a chorus of world leaders urged restraint. President Joe Biden has warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against launching new strikes on Iran, and said that the U.S. would not participate in any offensive actions against Iran, but has privately said he fears that Netanyahu is trying to drag the U.S. into a wider conflict, officials told NBC News.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., had a call with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today to convey support for Israel following Iran's retaliatory strikes this weekend, according to both their offices.

According to a statement from Netanyahu's office, Scalise expressed support "for any decision that Israel makes in light of the Iranian attack."

"Majority Leader Scalise informed the Prime Minister of his initiative to advance in Congress, in the coming days, a series of measures against Iran and for Israel; Prime Minister Netanyahu thanked him," the statement said.

Scalise told Fox News that they spoke about the House agenda this week and that he spoke to Netanyahu of his support for Israel's right to self- defense.

"He truly appreciated the action we’re taking to support Israel and to hold Iran and their terrorist proxies accountable," Scalise told the broadcaster.

Jordan allowed Israeli fighter jets into its airspace to intercept incoming Iranian missiles and drones, an Israeli Air Force official said today.

“In order to address something that comes from the east, we need to fly somewhere that is east of Israel,” the official said in a briefing to reporters. “This was done with coordination.”

While Iran’s direct attack against Israel was unprecedented, so was the scale of coordination between Israel and its Arab neighbor in the response. Jordanian and Israeli fighters — coordinated by the U.S. military — acted together to intercept the barrage of drones and missiles.

In a statement yesterday, Jordan’s government said the interceptions were made to ensure the safety of its citizens, rather than in the defense of Israel.

But it is thought to be the first time the two countries’ militaries have fought side-by-side.

Jordan and Israel made peace in 1994, though the relationship has often been strained by disagreements over Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians.

Israel gets attacked and then the world immediately screams for restraint. Rinse and repeat.

I laugh at the strategy of sending over 350+ missiles and
drones, and then acting as if it was well deserved and
any retaliation would be insightful. It's like me walking
up to you and hitting you in the face 350+ times, and then
saying, I don't plan on doing more, so don't you dare strike
back, because that would cause more trouble.

Israel is nobody's bitch! Iran leadership, behold the
wrath commeth.

After Israel beats the snot out of Iran's leadership,
I hope it states that's all they plan to do, and Iran
should refrain from retaliation, because THAT
would cause trouble.

It's like me walking up to you and hitting you in the face 350+ times, and then saying,

Yeah, but you have me 49 hours warning you would do it, so I guess it's all good.

Bush, Condoleza and Powell pulled that.

I had no respect for any of them after that.

Send over 350 drones/missiles and let Iran and her allies shoot them all down.

Coordinated by the U.S. Air Force. E-3’s providing early warnings and “air boss”. The fact that there was no fratricide is encouraging.

chutzpah: Sending 350 drones and missiles to destroy another country and then claiming it would be inciteful for the other country to respond in kind

It’s been reported that 700 drones and missiles were fired on Israel. Israeli military authorities said half crashed on takeoff.

The eternal unnamed source says maybe. Got it.

The primary deception of the news media is the pretense they know what is going on.

It seems to me that the book of Ezekiel was written by a very disturbed mind. (Or, minds)

(Did they get you, kid?)

Of course the article doesn’t mention targets, but may I suggest Nantez and Bashir?

Just trying to be helpful.

I’d like to see Israel bomb all known entrances to their nuclear mountain facilities.

Trap them in their underground facilities and keep an eye out for other entrances and close those off as well.

I’m a big fan of a large-scale aerial assault on Kharg Island.

Seeing a good chunk of Iran’s oil export capability destroyed would be nice.

However, Israel would then get blamed for the inevitable increase in oil prices as well as any environmental damage. And throw in the logistics of a long flight over Jordan, Saudi Arabia, etc. makes a raid like that a tough one.

But that’s to be expected, I guess.

To hurt Iran you take out Kharg Island. 90% of Irans oil goes through that facility.
Starve the beast.
