Israel Downplays Iran Strikes; Proof of Capability, Rather than Escalation
Breitbart ^ | 04/19/2024 | JOEL B. POLLAK

Israel downplayed reported airstrikes against Iran that appeared to hit targets near that country’s suspected nuclear program on Friday, seeming to cast the operation as proof Israel could reach the sites, rather than a full-scale attack.

As Breitbart News noted, there were media reports that Israeli drones, or missiles, had hit targets near Isfahan, Iran — close to the Natanz nuclear facility — as well as targets in Syria and Iraq. Israel’s Army Radio repeated these reports.

However, there were no reports of what the damage might have been, and one Israeli lawmaker — national security minister Itamar Ben Gvir — posted dismissively on Twitter/X that the attack had been a “scarecrow,” or “lame.”

That post appeared to represent an acknowledgment by Israel that it was, in fact, the source of the strikes — which would have been a counterattack to Iran’s massive missile and drone attack last weekend, which Israel intercepted.

Yes, a “knock, knock” warning, that Israel is known for doing in Gaza.

It’s only a warning if they hit something precisely, not randomly.

Isfahan: Hopefully Israel greased key nuke scientists.

Reports I read said that Iraina S-200 anti-aircraft missile batteries were struck, but the newer S-300 batteries next door were untouched.

Sounds to me like the Israelis were showing that they can take out Iranian assets, but didn't take out something so valuable that it would warrant yet another counterstrike by Iran.

They essentially showed Iran what they were capable of.

Agreed.

This looks like a send a message kind of action. Enough to communicate but not so much to trigger a response.

As a side note,Russia’s newest available is the S-500, initially supposed to be in production by 2014.

The “newer” S-300’s are probably only slightly less obsolete as the S-200’s.

They might have missed a golden opportunity to make the Middle East and the World a MUCH safer place by NOT taking out Iran's nuke program.

It was the S-400s that Russia sold to Turkey, but I don't think Iran has any S-400 missile batteries, so S-300 is as good as it gets there.

Israel is leaning on their Iron Dome systems, but with this volume of incoming hardware they should be putting on the hustle to install high energy laser systems all along their borders.

Evading air defense sufficiently to deliver weapons in the same general area as the Iran nuclear development program facilities demonstrates capability Iran doesn’t have.

Yes, it most likely does, assuming that was the target, which is likely.
