Casey faces his most serious election challenge from McCormick

Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) is potentially staring down his closest race yet, against Republican David McCormick, in what will be one of the pivotal Senate contests in November.

In Tuesday’s primary, McCormick is set to officially become the GOP nominee for the critical seat, setting up a battle with Casey, who is running for his fourth Senate term.

The former hedge fund CEO is the candidate the Republican Party wanted to oppose Casey, after nominating disappointing general election candidates two years ago.

“It’s an uphill climb, but if anybody can do it, [Republicans] have nominated the right person for it, which is McCormick,” Republican strategist Samuel Chen said. “This is probably the best shot that Republicans in Pennsylvania will have at unseating Bob Casey.”

McCormick held multiple roles in President George W. Bush’s administration, including deputy national security adviser and undersecretary of the Treasury for international affairs. He later served as CEO of the hedge fund Bridgewater Associates before stepping down to run for an open Senate seat in Pennsylvania in 2022.

He lost the Republican nomination that year to Mehmet Oz by fewer than 1,000 votes — and Oz lost the general election to now-Sen. John Fetterman (D). But McCormick has coalesced GOP support behind his candidacy this year and is unopposed for the nomination

If Fetterman campaigns for Casey, it will be over by 7pm and McCormick can go home.

What a background.

W. Bush Administration and then Bridgewater ?

Just like James Comey.

[If Fetterman campaigns for Casey, it will be over by 7pm and McCormick can go home.]

Fetterman beat Oz by 5%, not 50%. Counting PAC money, he outspent Oz 2 to 1. Fetterman also had PA GOP vote repellent Mastriano running for governor helping him. Mastriano lost by 15% to Shapiro. Shapiro’s super popular. For Fetterman, a statewide incumbent (Lt Gov) to win by only 5% against Oz, a first time political candidate and a Muslim toxic to many in the GOP, despite all of Fetterman’s advantages, isn’t a big endorsement for his political skills.

I think most everyone here knew that Oz would lose his bid, and that McCormick was the better candidate.

“undersecretary of the Treasury for international affairs.”

This is why I hate the Feds. What a useless job/title.

I think we should get Conor Lamb to run as a republican against Fetterman in ‘28. The way Pelosi forced him to vote hard left cost him the nomination. A potential rino? Think Toomey, Specter,Ridge, even Santorum in his later years.

Casey will pull it out based on the republican, commie, baby killers will vote for him. Trump will not make it here for the same reason. There is a 2-3% republican shift from local conservative votes to the state and above level democrats. That’s a 4-6% real deficit.

Casey shows up less frequently than Punxatawney Phil. His “shrinkflation” campaign is a joke.

Maybe his luck has run out.

Yeah. I just hope Oz doesn’t get into the race or Trump will endorse him.
