54 spring breakers arrested in Savannah bash amid booze-soaked brawls, beach flooded with trash

The party was over for dozens of party animals amid an out-of-control, booze-fueled spring break bash in Savannah, Ga. last weekend.

Tybee Island police arrested 54 rowdy spring breakers and issued 116 citations during the massive “Orange Crush” beach rager at the tourist hotspot.

Authorities also recovered three stolen firearms and a stolen vehicle during the island festivities.

Local leaders implemented unprecedented traffic and public safety measures after last year’s event, which became violent and chaotic, according to AJC.

Over 100 additional police officers from the Georgia State Patrol, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and other local police departments were called last weekend to help Tybee Island’s 12-person police force maintain order. *** Two women were caught on video duking it out on the beach over the weekend, resulting in both their bathing suit tops appearing to fly off their bodies, drawing a strong reaction from the crowd.

Multiple clips posted online from the weekend showed both men and women crowding a boardwalk as fights continued to erupt.

In addition to the violence, Tybee Island officials say there was enough trash left on the beach Saturday to fill more than 10 all-terrain vehicle carts. ***

Spring Break? A break from what, looting?

In order to make themselves comfortable in their new surroundings, they ghettoized the formerly pristine beach

The health dept. should issue warning for people within 10 miles stay out of the water. It looks to be very polluted. Probably smells bad too.

"10c) If planning a trip to a beach or amusement park at some date, find out whether it is likely to be swamped with blacks on that date (neglect of that one got me the closest I have ever gotten to death by gunshot)."

Tybee Island. My ole stomping grounds. In 1989, I operated a hoist crane that lifted an anchor out of the Savannah river for the Coast Guard. Was told it was pre-civil war era (at that time). It is on display there now and I think called the Big Anchor. I was updated on this by several ex coworkers since I left in Jan 1990 for an xfer to Texas. I wanna go back and visit again someday. But not to run into the rowdy mob this story is about.

Hate to say this but Savannah is a shit hole. The river walk smells like shit, literally. And up on the main street area the homeless and beggars are filty, smelly, disease ridden and will walk into a restaurant and walk up to you and beg for money. True story, actually happened to me and my GF. The management didn’t even run him off as he rummaged through the garbage inside the restaurant. This was about 8 years ago.

Funny how most news stories about fighting and similar disruptions seems to always have the same cast of players. However, this is the first story I’ve seen where pollution is added to the list of offenses.

Funny. In Daytona when they had the National biker week, which attracted recreational bikers as well as outlaw bikers, businesses loved it. They made lots of money and all the bikers were generally well behaved in the business and paid for what they consumed. There was some rowdiness on the streets but less than during the college spring break gatherings. When black biker week became a thing lots of these businesses would shut down and board up for the week. Too much violence, theft, vandalism and trash.
