U.S. Fertility Rate Falls to Record Low
The Wall Street Journal ^ | April 25, 2024 | Jennifer Calfas and Anthony DeBarros

American women are giving birth at record-low rates.

The total fertility rate fell to 1.62 births per woman in 2023, a 2% decline from a year earlier, federal data released Thursday showed. It is the lowest rate recorded since the government began tracking it in the 1930s.

The decline reflects a continuing trend as American women navigate economic and social challenges that have prompted some to forgo or delay having children. A confluence of factors are at play. American women are having fewer children, later in life. Women are establishing fulfilling careers and have more access to contraception.

At the same time, young people are also more uncertain about their futures and spending more of their income on homeownership, student debt and child care. Some women who wait to have children might have fewer than they would have otherwise for reasons including declining fertility.

“People are making rather reasoned decisions about whether or not to have a child at all,” said Karen Benjamin Guzzo, director of the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. “More often than not, I think what they’re deciding is ‘Yes, I’d like to have children, but not yet.’”

Total fertility estimates the number of children a woman would give birth to in her lifetime. The estimates don’t account for what women actually decide in later years, said Brady Hamilton, a co-author of the report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics.

I would be interested in seeing a break-out of the birth rates by race.

” Women are establishing fulfilling careers and have more access to contraception”

That will last about a generation or two.

Populations that don’t reproduce get replaced.

Liberalism has a terrible effect on birth rates.

Liberalism has a terrible effect on birth rates.

Japan and South Korea are not "liberal". They are still very family oriented. Yet their birth rates are even lower than ours.

Their birth rate drops by the time they're in their second generation as they become Americanized...

Have Japanese and Korean culture pushed careers for women and family taking a back seat in the lives of many women, as we’ve seen in America? Is birth control the major factor?

Americans don’t think the country has much of a future and don’t want to bring their children into Brazil 2.0.

Cognitive dissonance is not a problem for liberals. While half their brain will be proclaiming this as a great step forward toward zero population growth, the other half of their brain will be proclaiming to the world: “See, we need to bring more (so-called) “undocumented immigrants”[sic] to help our economy.

It’d be Brazil 2.0 only if we’re very, very lucky.

If not, I’d say Mad Max 2.0 is more likely.

Rollo Tomassi would note that since time immemorial procreation had been a collaborative arrangement between the sexes. For the past 50 years in America total control of procreation has been the purvey of women. So . . .?

The good thing about Brazil is that their government is always too corrupt and disorganized so they couldn't really do anything.

They're having similar issues in Brazil right now, Bolsonaro is known as the "Trump of the Tropics". But likely, Brazil will remain Brazil.

I think this country will eventually morph into a version of either Russia or China.

MUSLIN CONQUEST BY OUTBREEDING THE WEST!
https://youtu.be/erSH_0dKAks
The Marxist’s (i.e. Democrat) success in pushing would-be mothers OUT of their child bearing/raising roles has decimated the European stock here and we are on our LAST LEGS. And we carelessly pushed generations of native born kids through this Marxist dominated “education” (indoctrination) system and MILLIONS of THEM are now running huge chunks of the government systems and what remains of the private enterprise system that provided the resources that once made us the envy of the world.
If you CARE where we’re headed and STILL WANT TO RESIST, PLEASE SHARE THIS!
CAUTION: For those still undecided on the ABORTION ISSUE, I’ve attached a few graphics below some may find upsetting
I HOPE!

So now its either work OR motherhood? What a shameful and false choice. This is just feminism and selfishness. There is a also a skyrocketing number of women on SSRIs and using alchohol and drugs.

It’s a general trend but this is a sharp increase from what it was just a few years ago.

One can only lay the blame at the people in charge for the last 4 years. BidenFLATION, BidenOMICS etc.

1.71 births per only 6 years ago.
