One gigantic hole in the story is that the Weimar Republic was overwhelmed by huge issues: the effects of the Versailles Treaty with its huge payments to the Allies, the worldwide Depression, and the surging German Communist Party that was instigating labor strikes and street violence - as well as making ground in the German Reichstag (Parliament).

Hitler and the Nazis became known for their violent fights with the Communists in the streets and their poorly-planned Putsch in the early 20s.

Not coincidentally, the Communist street fighters were called "Antifascists" - Antifa for short - and they had the same flag as our masked marvels today.
